Helena, Strange formation of kudzu vines, July 5, 1963 [graphic] / Ernie Deane [photographer]. 1963.

Negative taken for July 10, 1963, Arkansas Gazette article "Our Explorer Fails to Find Marker of Survey Base Point," B1:2. While on a trip to eastern Arkansas to find the Louisiana Purchase Historical Monument, Deane spotted some kudzu that had overtaken trees along Crowley's Ridge. The kudzu, which was originally planted in Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas about 30 years ago, spreads over slopes, climbs trees and utility poles, and forms many unusual shapes on the landscape.
